A. 보내주세요.
A. 환영합니다.
A. 괜찮습니다.

[Questions our lab wants to answer]
Q. Is today’s humanoid really the best we can do?
A. Everyone is trying to copy the human hand. We build hands and feet that do what human hands cannot.
Q. How does a gecko hold onto glass?
A. No adhesive, no electricity — we bring that principle to a robot’s fingertips.
Q. What if a robot could go inside the body?
A. Soft robots and neural electrode interfaces that enter minimally invasively and unfold. Not stopping at a paper — this one is on its way to becoming a company.
Q. How far can robots not yet go?
A. Where rigid robots fail, soft robots take a different approach.
Bring us a question of your own if you have one.
We are looking for people to build good questions with, not just answers.
[Before you write]
Pick one of the questions above and read a related paper — you don’t need to understand all of it, just ask yourself whether you enjoyed reading it. And build something, anything. This is a lab where we make things with our hands, so having built something matters more to us than grades.
[Getting in touch]
Email sukho.song@dgist.ac.kr with the subject prefix [BiRL Inquiry] or [BiRL Counseling] — counseling is welcome even if you haven’t decided on graduate school.
Please include: your name and current status · a short introduction (under 500 characters) · one thing you built (photo, video, or code link — coursework and hobbies count) · one paper you found interesting and why, in your own words (any papers in our lab’s interest) · a CV summarizing what you’ve done · optionally, a transcript (not needed for a first email).
We’ll arrange a meeting after replying, and we’ll go into specific research topics then. Replies may be delayed — if you haven’t heard back in two weeks, feel free to write again.
[FAQ]
Q. No open slots — can I still write?
A. Please do. Research counseling is always open.
Q. My background isn’t robotics.
A. Welcome. Engineering, science, and medicine alike — our current members come from all over.
Q. I have no research experience.
A. That’s exactly why we ask what you’ve built, not what you’ve published.
Q. What’s lab life like? Email our members directly from the [Members] page.
A. They’ll tell you more accurately than I can.
